2008 District Pinewood Derby

The 2008 Northwest District Pinewood Derby was held on Saturday, April 19th at St. John the Evangelist School gym in Little Canada.  There were 85 Scouts, representing 21 Packs from the District, that raced their cars in an epic battle.  Click Here to see the results of the race, showing all the competitors. (29KB)  The top 10 finishers are invited to race in the Council Pinewood Derby race on Saturday, May 31st, at the Mall of America rotunda.  There is also an open invitational race open to anyone who would like to participate on Sunday, June 1st at the Mall of America.  Thanks to event chair Dick Thomalla and Troop 462 for hosting the 2007 District Race.

2008 Merit Badge Day

The District held a Merit Badge Saturday on March 8, 2008 and it went very well.  We had 102 Scouts attend.  We offered 13 different merit badges.  We had boys complete over 20 merit badges.  Nineteen adults took the adult Advancement, Merit Badge Counselor, and/or Eagle Leadership Project Coach Training.  Many thanks go to all of the volunteers that helped to make this such a special event.  A special thanks to Merit Badge Day organizer John Hanson for another very successful event.

2008 Ice Fishing Day

The 11th annual Northwest District Ice Fishing contest was held on January 26, 2008, at Snail Lake in Shoreview.  There were over 300 Scouts who attended.  This was moved from 1/19 to the back-up date of 1/26 when it became known that the high temperature for 1/19 was going to be below zero F and there was to be a -30F wind chill.  There were more prizes and winners than ever.  Thanks to the many area merchants who donated these door prizes and thanks to Troop 200 which predrilled holes in the ice and also offered concessions.

Fall 2007 Camporee

The 2007 Camporee was themed Campalot.  It was on October 12 - 14 at Phillippo Scout Reservation.  There were over 500 people who attended this fantastic event.  There was a Challenge course of 16 skill stations that patrols went through during the day.  The also picked up clues to search for the "holy grail".  There was a SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM cooking competition for dinner.  This event was inspired by Monty Python and much fun was had by all.

2007 District Dinner

The 2007 District Dinner was held on April 26th at St. Odilia Church in Shoreview.  The dinner recognized Scouters and units for their efforts and their achievements during the last year. The District is fortunate to have many dedicated volunteers.

2006 Webelos Woods

The 2006 Northwest District Webelos Woods was on May 19th - 21st was the 30th year for this event that introduces first year Webelos Scouts to Boy Scouts and Boy Scout camping.  We were lucky to avoid the predicted rain for most of the weekend at Fred C. Andersen Scout Camp.  There were over 300 youth and adults who participated in this first experience for Webelos in Boy Scout camping.  Thanks to event chair David Richard and all the Scouts, Explorers and Scouters who helped make this happen.

2005 Webelos Activity Days

This year the District held Webelos Activity Day on November 9th.  We had 225 Webelos show up to work on the Artist, Engineer, Scientist and Showman Webelos Activity Pins.  Thanks to chairperson Bill Fox for his leadership for this activity.

2005 Wali-Ga-Zu

Wali Ga Zu was held on February 28, 2005 and March 7, 2005.  (Patrols participated on one of the two dates.)  This event was held at the gym at St. John the Evangelist School in Little Canada.

The nature event for 2005 was Rodent Identification.

Participation was up this year with 186 Scouts, representing 29 patrols and 17 Troops participated in the 2005 Wali Ga Zu.  Thirteen patrols earned the coveted Honor Patrol Award by scoring 200+ points out of a possible 250 points in the overall scoring.  Six patrols earned Participation with Spirit, Skill and Speed (the next level).  Seven patrols earned Participation with Spirit and Skill and three earned Participation with Spirit.
