Purpose of Commissioner Service
To help sponsoring organizations and unit leaders provide a high quality program for unit members, using the methods and achieving the aims of Scouting.
To provide a monthly opportunity for all unit leaders to receive training, inspiration, and fellowship at district roundtable meetings.
How Commissioners Help . . .
Listen to unit leaders' concerns.
Observe unit operation.
Suggest alternative solutions and resources for unit leaders' consideration.
Provide on-the-job training,
Promote quality program, leader training and membership growth.
Provide information about district and council events and training courses.
The only reason for having commissioners is to help units succeed!

If a unit does not have a Unit Commissioner (UC), you should
contact the zone's Assistant District Commissioner (ADC) or the District
Commissioner (DC).

What is
a Unit Commissioner?
The unit commissioner is a volunteer who serves as a liaison between the
district and the unit, advocating for the needs of the unit as well as
communicating information from the district. The unit commissioner helps support
a high quality program in the unit.
We know that we have not been doing a good job of serving all our units with
unit commissioners because we are not fully staffed with a Unit Commissioner for
each unit. Therefore, we are asking you to consider nominating a candidate to
serve as Unit Commissioner for your unit or possibly for another unit. Please
read the job description below and consider nominating someone from your unit to
serve in this important position.
Unit
Commissioner Responsibilities:
- Actively participate in the monthly District Commissioners' Meeting
(usually the first Thursday of the month).
- Present the District calendar of events, such as training,
activities, etc. at your unit's monthly Committee meeting.
- Assist with annual processes including unit rechartering, Centennial
Quality Unit Award achievement, and unit membership inventories.
- Communicate any unit concerns or issues to the Assistant District
Commissioner (ADC) assigned to your unit.
- Attend Unit Commissioner basic training and annual Commissioner
conference.
- Report on monthly contacts with unit and unit activities to
ADC.
