Every Scout Deserves a Trained Leader

Scouting is a lifetime of learning.  Its a game with a purpose.  Scouting teaches skills not only to the youth, but also to its adult volunteers as well.  Training programs have been designed to teach each volunteer the keys to success is his or her position.

See the "Training" page on the Northern Star Council Website for more on council-provided training.

A complete pamphlet on Northwest District Training for 2006-2007 is now available.  Click here for the Northwest District Training pamphlet for 2006-2007.(515KB)  Click here for just the Northwest District 2006-2007 Training Calendar.(77KB)   Click here for the Northwest District 2007-2008 Training Calendar.(65KB)

Northwest District Training Records

Districts and units are measured on training as a criteria for quality awards.  Northwest District provides many opportunities each year for their registered leaders to have the training they need for their position.  One question that often arises is what training have the leaders of any given unit taken.  The Northwest District Committee would like every unit in the district to have access to this information.  This can be used by volunteers to see what training they have and what they need.  It can be used by the Unit Leader, the Committee Chair and/or the Unit Training Coordinator to help determine who needs training as the classes become available.  It can also be used to complete the Centennial Quality Unit Award forms.  We must also keep privacy considerations in mind while doing this.  The list provided contains only the initials of leaders and is sorted by unit.  Note that this report is an extract that will be updated periodically.  The date of the report is on each page of the report.  Note that this report only shows the key training elements and does not contain every training available to leaders.  Records are kept of training that does not show on this report.  Individuals may contact the Training Registrar for their complete individual profile.  The Unit Leader and/or Unit Committee Chair may also request a report from the Training Registrar with the complete profiles for the leaders in their unit.  Click here for the most recent (12/8/07) Northwest District Boy Scout Leader Training Records.(150KB)

Boy Scout Leader Basic Training

The new Basic Leader Training program is the culmination of more than two years of work by volunteers and professionals from throughout the nation.  Their goal was to revise and update the volunteer leader training materials for the Boy Scouts of America.

Our goal is to achieve 100 percent trained unit volunteers. It begins with the existing Fast Start training, continues through New Leader Essentials, and is followed by Leader Specific training.

What makes a Trained Leader? SCOUTMASTERS and ASSISTANT SCOUTMASTERS are considered trained when they have completed New Leader Essentials, Youth Protection Training, Leader Specific Training and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills.

Note: Troop Committee Members are considered trained when they have completed New Leader Essentials, Youth Protection Training and the Troop Committee Challenge as their Leader Specific training.  Please call your District Boy Scout Training Chair to arrange a training session for your entire Troop Committee.
