Eagle Scout Leadership Project Information

Life rank Scouts must design and implement a project that demonstrates planning and leadership as one of the requirements for Eagle rank.  The Northwest District Advancement Committee has written up the process to be followed to help Life Scouts understand the process.  Click here for the Northwest District Leadership Project Approval Process. (98KB)  In addition to this the Northern Star Council Advancement Committee has drawn up a planning guide to help Life Scouts know what is needed for the project and the plan including tips.  Click here for the Northern Star Council Eagle Scout Service Project Planning Guide. As you plan and carry out your leadership service project, use the Eagle Scout Leadership Service Project Workbook to record your plans and progress.  The workbook may be downloaded in either of the following formats:

There can be up to three areas on a Scout's Eagle Leadership Project where a table is required to list various items needed for the project.  The Northwest District Advancement Board has created several of these tables that you may take an use to put this information in your Leadership Service Project Workbook.

Advancement and Merit Badge Counselor Training

Beginning September, 2001, every Merit Badge Counselor is required to have Merit Badge Counselor Training.  Merit Badge Counselors should take this class and Youth Protection Training.  This year Northwest District provided each Troop with a Merit Badge Counselor Training Kit.  The Training coordinator for each unit should conduct this training with all merit badge counselors that are registered with their Troop.  The Merit Badge Counselor Training material is now available on this site in both PowerPoint and Adobe PDF formats.  Advancement in the Unit is a slide presentation about advancement in each of Scouting's programs.  Board of Review is a presentation on period review with Boy Scouts.  Eagle Leadership Project Coach contains information about being an Eagle Leadership Project Coach.

Silver Beaver Award Nominations          

Each year this award is presented at the Council level to Scouters who have rendered noteworthy service of exceptional character to youth.  Candidates, without their knowledge, are nominated by fellow Scouters.  Recipients are recognized at the annual Council Court of Recognition Dinner.  Nominations are now being accepted for the 2010 Silver Beaver Award.  Click here for a nomination form.(105KB)  Click here for an MS Word version of the nomination form. (497KB)  The deadline for the 2010 nominations is 5 p.m. on November 1, 2009.

District Award of Merit Nominations          

Each year this award is presented at the District level to Scouters who have rendered noteworthy service of exceptional character to youth.  Candidates, without their knowledge, are nominated by fellow Scouters.  No more than three Northwest District Scouters per year may receive this award, the highest individual recognition at the District level.  Nominations are now being accepted for the 2010 Northwest District Award of Merit.  The deadline for the 2010 nominations is February 11, 2010.

Merit Badge Saturday #1

This year Northwest District will hold a special Merit Badge Saturday event on February 27, 2010 for Scouts interested in completing the Citizenship in the Nation and/or Citizenship in the World Merit Badges.  This event will be held at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Shoreview and is in addition to the normal Merit Badge Saturday which will be held the following week on March 6th.  Click here for a flyer for the 2010 Northwest Merit Badge Saturday #1. Merit Badge Saturday #2

Northwest District will hold a Merit Badge Saturday on March 6, 2010 at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church in Shoreview.  Each year over 100 Scouts attend and earn Merit Badges.  We will offer adults Advancement, Merit Badge Counselor, and/or Eagle Leadership Project Coach Training.  Click here for a flyer about the 2010 Northwest Merit Badge Saturday. District Award of Excellence (for Units)

Each year Northwest District has a measurable set of criteria by which units can assess whether they are operating at a level of excellence.  Units may complete a self assessment form and submit them to receive a District Unit Award of Excellence.  Click here for the 2009 District Award of Excellence form.
