District Pinewood Derby

The 2008 Northwest District Pinewood Derby was held on Saturday, April 19th at St. John the Evangelist School in Little Canada.  The top finishers will be invited to race in the Council Pinewood Derby race.  Click here to view the results of the 2008 Northwest District Pinewood Derby. District Dinner

This annual event is a chance to meet with other Scouters from the district and recognize Quality Units, Distinguished Scouters, Awards of Excellence, District Award of Merit and more.  All of this plus a great meal!  The 2008 dinner will be on Thursday, April 24th at St. Odilla Catholic Church in Shoreview.  Social time starts at 6:00 pm with dinner at 6:30 pm.  The cost this year is $17 ($15 if you register by April 1st).  Click here for the 2008 Northwest District Dinner flyer. Scouting for Food

Scouting for Food pick-up will be on Saturday, April 26th.  Bags promoting this should be distributed by units during the week preceding the pick-up day.  Zone assignments and maps as well as bags for distribution will be available at the Northwest District Roundtable on April 10th.  Help make a difference in our community by participating in this Scouting good turn.

Webelos Woods

Webelos Woods is a unique opportunity for 4th grade Webelos and parents to experience a campout with a Boy Scouting experience.  Boy Scouts, Explorers, Venturing Crew and Scouters from the Northwest District organize this campout which has contests, skills stations, tent camping, outdoor cooking and more.  This year will be Northwest District's 31st annual Webelos Woods at it will be on May 16 - 18, 2008 at Fred C. Andersen Scout Camp, so reserve this weekend on your calendar.  Packets are available below.    A Health Form must be submitted for every participant at registration time.  Thanks to Dan Nelson who is chairing this event this year.

Camporee

The Camporee is a District wide camping event.  There is a theme for the event and there are structured activities to participate in.

The 2007 Camporee will be on October 12 - 14 at Phillippo Scout Reservation (in Cannon Falls).  The theme is "Campalot".

Webelos Activity Day

This is a District wide day event which provides Webelos Scouts with the opportunity to earn several Webelos Activity Pins.  This year's Webelos Activity Day will be on Saturday, November 10, 2007, from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm.  This year the event has moved and will be at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, 2561 N. Victoria St. in Roseville (at the intersection of County Road C and Victoria St.).  The cost is $7 per Webelos Scout.  Click here for a 2007 Webelos Activity Day flyer and registration form. Ice Fishing Contest

The 2008 Northwest District Ice Fishing Contest will be at Snail Lake Regional Park January 19th, 2008This event has been postponed due to expected very cold weather and will be held on the back-up date, January 26th, 2008.  Your sign-up for the event is still good for the rescheduled date.  Check-in will start at 1:00 pm, with the contest beginning at 1:30 pm.  The registration fee is $6 until January 11th and $8 for late sign-ups.  Click here for a flier and a sign-up sheet. Wood Badge Breakfast

The 3rd annual Northern Star Council Wood Badge Breakfast will be on Saturday, January 26th, 2008 at St. Andrews Lutheran Church, Eden Prairie, MN.  The purpose of the Wood Badge Breakfast is 1) to introduce prospective Wood Badgers to the Wood Badge experience, 2) raise funds for the Wood Badge Scholarship Fund and 3) allow you to reconnect with Wood Badge friends.  All Wood Badgers, prospective Wood Badgers and family are invited to attend.  Click here for a 2008 Wood Badge Breakfast Flier. Wali Ga Zu

Wali Ga Zu is a district-wide patrol skills competition.  Every year Troops register their patrols to compete in this event.  This inter-troop and inter-patrol Scout skills activity's purpose is to promote learning, practicing and demonstrating five of the basic Scout skills (Tripod Building / Lashing, First Aid, Nature Identification, Map and Compass Skills, Knot Tying).  Awards are presented based on proficiency and speed.  The 2008 Wali Ga Zu will be held on February 25th and March 3rd, 2007 at St. John the Evangelist School in Little Canada.  (Troops participate on one of the two days.)  All the information for 2008 is in the documents selectable below:

Merit Badge Saturday

This year Northwest District will again be offering a Merit Badge Saturday.  The date is Saturday, March 8th, starting at 9 am.  (Note this is a date change from this year's District Calendar.)  This is a chance for Boy Scouts to to earn several merit badges if they do a little prep work for them.  Click here for the final flyer on the 2008 Merit Badge Saturday.(102KB-rev 1/24)  Click here for a sheet with prerequisites for Merit Badge Saturday.(77KB)  The following table contains sheets with requirements that must be completed prior to Merit Badge Saturday and the items to be brought along with you.

Art

3. With your parent's permission and your counselor's approval, visit a museum, art exhibit, art gallery, artists' co-op, or artist's workshop. Find out about the art displayed or created there. Discuss what you learn with your counselor. 

4. Find out about three career opportunities in art. Pick one and find out the education, training, and experience required for this profession. Discuss this with your counselor, and explain why this profession might interest you.

Music

Note: There will be a $4 materials fee for doing the Plumbing Merit Badge.
Sports

Sports merit badge pre-requisites: Please have all requirements done. Be ready to talk about requirements 1-4. Bring with your completed chart for requirement 5 showing your training, practice and development in one sport over a season (or 4 month period).

Those who have completed the requirements should meet with the Counselor at 10:30 AM.

At 1 PM in the afternoon scouts who would like to take the merit badge can meet with the Counselor. Priority will be given to scouts who are first class and above. Scouts will need to follow up with the Counselor to complete the merit badge at a later time.

Maplewood Nature Center
